fwiw, you should be able to build without the vendored jemalloc by doing:
make VENDOR="zeromq openssl zlib" ## Skip's building jemalloc
Doing so should allow you to use your distro's jemalloc.
I will look into making dependency options tunable, but it's likely simply lumberjack building without downloading/compiling its own jemalloc should solve this for you? Can you verify?

jemalloc doesn't seem to be in the default repos for CentOS 5 (where I ran across this problem) or CentOS 6, although it is available via CentOS 6's EPEL add-on repo. For those unwilling to install non-stock system-wide libraries, the local jemalloc without TLS may be the only option.
I'll see if I can verify whether using the system jemalloc works or not.

Gotcha, thanks for checking.
Can you get me the 'uname -a' output or something else? I'd like to disable tls automatically on these platforms where it causes noise.
Additionally, I'd have the 'disable thread-local storage in jemalloc' as a top level build flag for lumberjack.

When looking for the RHEL/CentOS xen kernels, the "el5xen" part is the relevant identifier. The kernel release will end with just "el5" otherwise. There's no distinction on the CentOS 6 kernels.

I don't think this ticket is relevant anymore; lumberjack was rewritten in Go and no longer selects jemalloc or openssl at build time.
