The EGM format supports zip archives and unarchived directories alike. If you want, you can use version control on the latter.

I'm not sure what EDL files you're referring to. Enigma has a game file format called EGM which, as Josh pointed out, stores your game/program as a bunch of files in a zip archive, or unarchived as a directory. So it sounds like what you request is basically already mostly implemented (aside from a known bug with the way Sprites are stored, and perhaps some improved export/import support - I forget exactly how well I implemented that).

Well, at this point, you can't really.
The code is in there, it's just not hooked into the interface, and it also hasn't been tested very extensively.

Hooking it into the interface is already a task on the Plugin's Todo list: http://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Plugin:Todo#Tasks
