Hello @MichalPP ,

This is AWESOME!
I don't understand everything in your project because of the language but it seems perfectly in line with EqualStreetNames and I'll be more than happy to help you adding Slovakia to this project.

You're WAY further than we are and it's absolutely awesome to have more than 200 cities to add to the project.
It's indeed unrealistic to add 200+ new repositories (even though it would work).
The project is not city specific and can be replicated for any area/region.
I don't know all the specific of Slovakia but the country seems to be split in 8 "regions" (see Kraje_Slovenska.svg) maybe that could be a solution for Slovakia.
The only "limitation" is the amount of data that needs to be downloaded when the map loads the first time. I decided to limit it to cities to limit that amount of data.

Maybe you could start with the "city" of Bratislava or the "region" of Bratislava.

I'm all ears, let me know how you want to proceed!

for navigation purposes, it's possible to split into regions, but for marketing/municipality purposes, I'd like to have separate pages for each city (eg one city has score of 50 male streets to 0 female streets).

afaik, setting up each EqualStreetNames city is "just" default lat/lon/zoom and boundary relation id.

  1. data directory is autocomputed (which I can compute from my server, for now; it's straightforward csv which I can just export from my server),
  2. statistics and short info for the main page are autocomputed,
  3. html/asset directories should be autogenerated as well.

Not exactly, but it's almost as simple.
You just have to follow the instructions here : https://github.com/EqualStreetNames/equalstreetnames-template

data directory is autocomputed

Indeed! Once the repository is setup, I can just run the automated data process.

There is the default English page in the template repository. You just have to copy paste it (and make a few changes) to add another language.

fyi, I've imported quite a lot of etymology tags into OSM in Slovakia and surrounding areas.

now for the presentation part. I still think that creating individual repos for each of the 200+ cities is not a viable solution (even when adding one-by-one). maybe a script that will create websites for each of them (with the added benefit of updated translations).

first nice examples would be Piešťany (no female streets) or Bratislava (capital and a lot of streets)

Awesome!

I'll start with Bratislava 😃
I've sent you an invite to @EqualStreetNames/bratislava

@MichalPP Could you update MAPBOX_TOKEN secret with a valid Mapbox token so I can deploy the website ?

MichalPP avatar MichalPP commented on May 27, 2024

I don't have a mapbox_token (nor mapbox account). I've even created my own vector server to avoid creating mapbox account...

@MichalPP Could you create a Mapbox account for this purpose (it should stay below the free limit ; that's the case for all the other cities) ? Thanks.
