I'm not a huge fan of creating a fully fledged HTTP client inside esphomelib, as from my experience all solutions I've seen have been quite unstable.

Besides, the best way to integrate esphomelib into a custom project would be using the integrated web server (https://esphomelib.com/esphomeyaml/components/web_server.html). Using that you can have a RESTful API for accessing all data in real-time (but not pushing it out like a client).

The web server is not even a workaround because nobody wants to have inbound traffic into the home network. But if there's no library for easy integration I understand your argumentation. The feature would be nice but for me it wouldn't be important enough to implement it, as well.

escoand, I suppose you could use HomeAssistant as the bridge right? Event occurs on esp8266 then homeassistant automation triggers the rest call..

I would avoid this single point of failure and also the overhead. Maybe we can have a more low level solution with just creating TCP connections and transmit the HTTP as part of the payload.
