Can't set nameservers for existing zone about powerdns-php

It is not possible to update the nameservers through a zone 'put'. In fact, passing the nameservers when creating a zone is a PowerDNS shortcut. It'll create a new zone and after creating it, it adds the nameservers as NS records. So if you want to update the nameservers, you need to update the NS records. Based on your code it will look something like this:

$api = new Powerdns($url, $apikey, $port);
$zone = $api->zone($canonicalDomain);

// Get all NS resource sets defined in the zone.
foreach ($zone->get(RecordType::NS) as $nsRecord) {
    // Multiple nameservers are defined as resource records inside the resource set.
    // With 'setRecords' you can REPLACE the whole array with the new nameservers.
    $nsRecord->setRecords($data['nameservers'])->save();
}
