Type error (VarRef) passing string to be parsed about ex-xparse

Seems to be a change in the handling of closures here:

The new Parse_BaseX.jar works when called directly

This works

declare function local:foo() as function(*)
{
  let $code:=``[function($src as xs:string){Q{java:java.lang.String}length($src)}]``
  return xquery:eval($code)
};

Q{java:java.lang.String}length("abc")
, local:foo()("abc")

Maybe problem is with org.basex.query.value.item.Str
