This has just been added in Docusaurus version 1.0.0-alpha.13. You should be able to specify what port you want your server to run on using a command line argument. e.g. npm start 9000
. Omitting the port number will still default to port 3000.

I'm concerned we may need other flags in the future, so it may be nice to label them.
npm start --port 3000 --foo bar
We could use a library like npm "commander" to achieve this

@sdwilsh In the latest version of Docusaurus, port number is specified using a --port
flag (will still default to 3000 if no port is specified):
npm start -- --port 8080
