I believe you are behind a proxy or firewall.
Try setting up http_proxy environment variable.

This issue is not HipHop related.

Maybe you could try the backported git-core package from 5.0 or try with ?

now, this is getting weird.

I have a firewall of course, the machine we are talking about acts both as server and as router.
From that machine I can't ping github.com, and traceroute stops just at the hop before that.

Still, from a machine that is BEHIND that router, everything works.
So it's not really a firewall problems, or neither the machines behind that would work, now wouldn't they?

I still think it's some kind of weird git problem, I'm using 1.5.6.5 on server now, while on my other client there's 1.6.5.6.
