Sadly, if an app (like arc, or any electron application) does not conform with the text input accessibility model, svim will not work properly. There is little one can do about it other than to file an issue with the developers of those applications. A trick that makes some electron apps comply is setting some additional accessbility flag, which will be set automatically by svim when compiling with the option -DMANUAL_AX.
Defaulting to normal mode is no problem at all, you would simply need to delete this line:
