I guess the view with id "tvPDPath" is in your path_dialog layout. But you tried to find it in your activity:

TextView tvPath = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.tvPDPath);

You should do like this:

private void showCustomViewDialog() {
    View pathDialogView = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.path_dialog, null);
    createAlertDialogBuilder().setTitle(getResources().getString(R.string.set_path))
                                             .setView(pathDialogView)
                                             .setNegativeButton("Cancel", new PathClickedListener("Cancel"))
                                             .setPositiveButton("Save", null)
                                             .show();
    TextView tvPath = (TextView) pathDialogView.findViewById(R.id.tvPDPath);
    tvPath.setText("Test");
}
