But the is-splash class with a background-image for flowplayer-class does work with iPad.

But is-splash with background-image does not display a splash on iPhone and iPod.
For the small iDevices wrt poster videojs 2 gives the most consistent results (apart from a pure video tag) - version 3 loses it again, jwplayer displays it, but then needs 2 touches to start playback.

iPhone is currently "implemented" so that flowplayer does nothing. we just let iPhone do what does with the native player. iOS5 VIDEO support was so poor that it wouldn't make sense to implement anything. don't know how mature iOS6 support in iPhone is.

That's why poster works on the small devices, yes, but apparently not on iPad.
