This feeds into a bug that exists in the iOS SDK, where credentials hang around between app installs. We plan to address this in a future release. The workaround, in the meantime, would be to go into the Settings app and, for your installed app, switch Logout Now to ON. This is going to result in a different error scenario, since you will not be able to reach the login server when your app launches. But it will be a handled error: your user will be notified that the app could not connect to Salesforce, and given the option to retry when he/she is back online.
