Yeah, this is something we want to get right in FormKit that caused a lot of confusion in Vue Formulate. I think what should happen here is we internally cast it to a string so it can render on the page, but we keep track of what the original type was so we can convert the value to the proper type on change (HTML inputs only output strings).
Either way, thanks for the report — like I said we really want to get this right — it needs to "just work".
