I found the problem, which is this line of code:

This should be changed to
if os.path.isfile(self.requirements_txt):

Additionally, deptry expects all options as relative to the first argument, or in your case crop
. So in your case, it would work with
deptry . -rt etc/requirements.txt --extend-exclude some_dir,some_file
Where some_dir and some_file are directories that should not be scanned.
I can see that this is a bit confusing, and it's also poorly documented. I think that the way you are trying to use it actually makes more sense. I will consider changing this as well.
