Same for OpenCrypt.org/.net, registered about a year ago

FreeCrypt.org/.net are FREE (for now).

I think a domain name with the exact name is needed too (yes, you can use something like librecyptfoundation.net but the existence of a librecypt.net not under your control can cause some problems, ie. misunderstanding/phishing/etc.).

Maybe someone should pre-register domain for nicest names ...

Guys, domain name discussion is appreciated, but severely off-topic and actually way too early. We didn't even have a proper contest. And we won't have a contest before it has been decided to change the name of the project.

So keep suggesting cool names and save wallet-opening and domain-searching for later.

But OpenCrypt it still an excellent name, since the project will be Open, and it is actually beeing Openly Audited (the dev has not begin, so it's still Truecrypt 7.1a, which is beeing audited here : https://opencryptoaudit.org/ )
So in my opinion, LibreCrypt and OpenCrypt are the best choices.

It depends on the squatter. I contacted the guys squatting FreeCrypt.com,
and they feel they have a legit use for it in the future, so we can't have
it, at least not for any reasonable price. The FreeCrypt.org guy offered
it for free, which is very generous, but I don't think Windows users are
going to be OK with .com not working.

Any reason why? A lot of open source projects have rather poor domain names (keepass.info comes to mind, but also all the getsomething.org or that.io) but that usually doesn't make a big difference to the success of the project.

Sorry, I was in a bad mood tonight, after I felt the CipherShed team might
be under attack from the MIB. It was totally my fault for being that
paranoid and misreading what was posted. However, the reality is that we
need to own whatever domain.com we wind up with. We had a very generous
offer from the owner of FreeCrypt.org to give us the name. However,
FreeCrypt.com is in use (not squated - I chatted with the owner, who feels
he has a legit use). Window's users, meaning TrueCrypt's primary user
base, are not very sophisticated. Owning the .com seems to me to be
critical for success, though that's just my opinion. It' is up to us to
protect these low-sophistication users.

The fact that they don't own Nissan.com drives me nuts! Not only that,
just today I went to UnitedAirlines.com and got half way through purchasing

For me, both EnCrypt and OpenCrypt seem excellent choices.

While OpenCrypt sounds a little more obvious EnCrypt is indeed also a very elegant name, representing the matter completely in itself.

Combining both names would result in "Open EnCrypt" as maybe the best choice here. Especially since you can always refer to it with its short name "EnCrypt", while the official project would be refered to as "Open EnCrypt".

"Open EnCrypt" contains the most simple and straightforward information about the project itself. No further explanation needed (at least regarding the name)

Comments are most welcome
