Having heroes is silly because it distances people instead of uniting them. I wouldn't be surprised if the people revered as “heroes” are often annoyed that people worship them instead of learning the same stuff that they learned, applying that knowledge, and giving honest feedback.

Personally I try to keep an eye on anything @sebmarkbage, @jordwalke, @staltz, @andymatuschak, @swannodette, @leebyron do and say. Of course it's a tiny fraction of interesting people, but that's the fraction I'm watching. See also My React List.
