ifconfig command not found about linuxgsm

I remember that i had an issue with this, a workaround i found was to use /sbin/ifconfig

ifconfig is deprecated at least in some distributions. Another solutions would be using the ip command instead of ifconfig..

ip -o -4 addr | awk '{print $4 }' | grep -oe '\([0-9]\{1,3\}\.\?\)\{4\}'

I have never heard that ifconfig is deprecated. Which distros are doing this?

Arch Linux has deprecated net-tools since 2011: https://www.archlinux.org/news/deprecation-of-net-tools/
The linux foundation lists them as obsolete and has a list of tools that replace them: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/networking/net-tools

Thanks @Trellmor I had never heard of this command before. I will consider replacing ifconfig with your suggestion. This will make sure that the script stays relevant in the to future.
