yes, gon takes variables only from controller. I think now about global gon variables, which you can add from anywhere, like application_controller or views. Will add this functionality soon.

Done in version 3.0.0
In readme is example about using new Gon.global feature. With Gon.global.clear you can do what you want in views

@bruparel seems you can do like this

defined in controller:

@gon = gon

and in view:

@gon.namespace = {
    :var => "val"
}

from gon.
