Sorry - I think the mistake is mine ... it's a function of which Bitwig dualscreen layout I am using and which set of grids is the one controlled by the Akai. The one grid is associated with the Arranger timeline panel (the typical DAW linear track recorder) and its clips appear transposed vertical for horizontal.
The grid which is correctly triggered by the Akai is on the other screen and is the proper clip launcher screen.
Moss - if you are satisfied that it is me getting confused, please close! Sorry for any trouble caused.
