Sorry for the slow reply on this, the main motivation of the minimum price change is to prevent bots from trading small price updates profitably at the expense of liquidity providers, using the profit to pay for the fees is possible but would likely allow bots to open and close positions at a reduced cost and with a higher probability of profit over a period of time.
