What do you mean by "integrating Cyanite+Grafana"? One is a backend datastore for Graphite, the other is a frontend dashboard. They are both part of the Graphite ecosystem, but have completely distinct areas of responsibility and functionality.

You're correct, we still need the frontend part (graphite-web) to be able to interrogate Cyanite.

Uh, no. You don't query Cyanite directly. It's a backend datastore for Graphite. Grafana doesn't care what backend datastore you're using; it uses Graphite's render API.

If you change graphite storage engine (whisper, ceres, cynaite) Grafana does care need to know. It only queries the graphite web render api
