Ah. Thanks. (You answered even before commenting!). I was trying to do something like this:

lib\
    converter\
       base.php
       html.php
       .....

convert_note.php

    define("GRAUPHEL_LIBS", dirname(__FILE__) . DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR . "lib");
    ini_set("include_path", ini_get("include_path") . PATH_SEPARATOR . GRAUPHEL_LIBS);

    require_once 'converter/base.php';
    require_once 'converter/html.php';

That is why it didn't work.
