This looks like you have different versions of hacmrest on the classpath: I had gotten a similar error when combining hamcrest 1.3 with older releases of JUnit (pre 4.11 I think) because JUnit shipped (I think this is different in newer releases of JUnit) with its own version of hamcrest.
For JUnit this can be fixed by using the junit-dep artifact (since JUnit 4.11 I think this not needed anymore).
In case you are using a dependency management system like Maven, Gradle or Ivy you also have to exclude the hamcrest artifact from the JUnit artifact. Cf. the JUnit 4.10 release notes, junit-team/junit4/issues/349, and JUnit's doc on how to download and install.
I hope this helps, in case it doesn't just let me know :-).

Thanks for the hint and help. JUnit 4.11 and hamcrest 1.3 works together out of the box :-)
And with JUnit 4.10 and exclusion of hamcrest-core works also. Thanks
