I searched hexchat.org to try find out if there's a way to import/export settings to a single file, but can't seem to find anything. If there is no such function would you be open to adding one in the future? I personally know how to copy app data to preserve settings but I know a few people who want to move to hexchat and want my settings and having the ability to backup to a single file and even share your settings that way is attractive.

I don't think there's an option to "export" settings, however it's possible to simply copy the files from your configuration directory (somewhere in AppData in Windows, ~/.config/hexchat in Linux). The different files in that directory contain different settings (colors, settings, server list, etc).

I like 2) as well, it helps so that your eyes don't have to move up and down, depending on if a channel's busy or not.

Starting an empty channel's text at the bottom would be a great addition. I wonder if it's possible to achieve this with a plugin?
