Yeah, the key thing is that it works. But a slider in the main interface would be more in keeping with Gnome UI guidelines (and better UI in general I think).
PS: On the UI aspect, I'd hide the lossless, lossy toggle until after you add files. So when you add files, the toggle appears. Then if you choose lossy, the slider appears. This keeps the UI maximally simple.
