This isn't a bits-ui issue, rather a setting within nanoid's package.json:
You can raise an issue over there, but its not an issue with this library!

I realize this issue is closed, but I ran into this as well and wanted to add a note for any one else that happens on this issue.
It's actually melt-ui (v0.69) that requires nanoid v5. This effectively makes melt-ui and bits-ui require node v18+. It's a silent breaking change. :-)
Looking at the melt-ui usage of nanoid, it should still work with nanoid v4.x... so one possibility might be to use pnpm to override the nanoid version used.
Note: I did test using pnpm to override the nanoid version necessary for bits-ui/melt-ui... and then I was able to install without issue.
