on some mailboxes in sync I have this error
Err 1/5: Host2: flags msg info/Inbox/52232 could not add flags [Categoria_arancione \Flagged]: timeout waiting 120s for data from server (4x)

Since the labels are synchronized anyway,

I'm not sure of that. Imapsync resyncs flags of a message only if they differ on both sides.

We assume that it is a problem with the specific message on the server.

I don't assume that. --debugimap can help on this.

I would like to be able to identify which one is on host1, but from the log I only see the progressive imap and nothing useful for identifying the message on host1

A trick to identify them:

imapsync ... --folder Inbox --search1 "UID 52232" --debugcontent

Q. I want to sync messages based on their UID.

But since yours are already synchronized, it may fail to show them.

Identyfing messages with an error is a long-standing request, I just updated the TODO file.
