It might also be relevant that in earlier imports from the same camera the issue occured too, but only in about 20% of all images, the rest shows up fine. Since some update (can't know specifically, as I just occasionally upload those images and there were many versions between them) every single image from that camera fails.

duplicate of #8510, corrupt files and/or not supported by upstream library

If you want to confirm you can try a tool like convert to parse the image, but my guess is they are indeed corrupt and this is not something that Immich will be able to display.

I tried ImageMagick convert and while it does in fact spew out a ton of warnings, it also produces a perfectly reasonably output file, suggesting that the corruption messages are to be considered warnings rather than errors.

Chrome and Firefox can also display the file just fine, as does that-image-service-that-ought-not-to-be-named that Immich so successfully replaces for me. In fact it seems that most other tools either entirely ignore the corruption or only report them as warnings and reproduce the content appropriately.

Last but not least: if I can't convince you, is the idea that Immich won't support those file one of priorities or of principle? I might find some time to investigate/fix this, because I suspect it's an easy fix (I even got vips, which seems to be the library doing the work behind the sharp lib, to manipulate the file from the command line just fine, suggesting that it's not inherently incapable of loading these files).
