Do you think a better solution would be to store the position of the layout and use that instead?

The preview area used to be smaller, but other feedback we got was that they'd prefer it bigger on a larger device. Rather than conditionally applying logic based on size it might just be easier to store it.

That would certainly help, but I still think 80 visible characters in the editor on ~13 inches would be a good baseline.
Would be interesting to know the distribution of screen sizes.

I wouldn't mind an effective font size of 12px for the editor (or even for most other text) and in the context of a playground type app like Zapp, I don't feel the need for a minimap. Maybe that could be off by default?
