WIP: Help! Trying to port TextMate::UI.menu helper to coffeescript about coffee-script-tmbundle

Oooh, discovered I needed to "close_write" after writing to stdin.

dialog: process.createChildProcess dialog_cmd, ["-u"]
dialog.addListener "output", (data) ->
  res: data?.strip()
dialog.write menuItems
dialog.close()

Now res is null and the menu doesn't show, but it's not hanging anymore :)

Hmm, not sure how to debug this. The menu doesn't show, but I get the following output:

'init'
'data: null'

from the following debug-enhanced code

res: "init"
dialog: process.createChildProcess dialog_cmd, ["-u"]
dialog.addListener "output", (data) ->
  p "data: ${data}"
  res: data
dialog.addListener "error", (data) ->
  p "error: ${data}"
dialog.write(menuItems)
dialog.close()
p res

which seems to mean that p res is running before the dialog process; but that the output event is still being received. But no menu dialog is displayed.

I'm not sure how to help debug it remotely, but if you'd like to pop in to #coffeescript, I'm sure we'd all be glad to give you a hand with it.
