Without looking to much through the traceback, I'll hazard that it's because you're not using the most recent version of SymPy. Most of the functionality demonstrated above is using the git master, as stated in the ReadMe.

Yeah, that's it. We should be doing a release of 0.7.6 soon, so it'll be on pypi then, but for now you need to grab from sympy's github repo, available here.

Your README doesn't actually say master, it says 0.7.5-git, so I grabbed
the 0.7.5 tag:) Anyway, it works with master, as you say. Nice job on the
notebook and slides.
