Thanks for the feedback and interest in TiddlyWiki5.
Tiddler content can be packed into the main TiddlyWiki file as you describe, and then it is automatically loaded into the store as part of the boot process. However, it is also possible for TiddlyWiki to load content from other sources during the boot process.
For example, the TiddlyWeb edition of TiddlyWiki5 is actually a fixed size, static HTML file that loads up the tiddlers it needs from TiddlyWeb as it boots up. (The TiddlyWeb edition is currently broken but the code will still show you what's going on).
In terms of saving changes, TiddlyWiki offers two fairly different approaches:
- Saving a new HTML file with the modified content and the necessary bits of the TiddlyWiki core
- Syncing individual tiddlers back to a remote server
The 'saver' modules that you were looking at handle the different ways of saving the entire HTML file. Currently the only example of syncing is the TiddlyWeb edition.
To your other point about IndexedDB, I'm not presently planning to use it because browser support is still so poor - it's not available on Safari or most mobile platforms.
