A space is not part of the ISO-8601 standard (others have used it that way, but the standard is clear).

Since we have formatters that allow this task, and the parse method to make using a formatter easy, I'm not planning on implementing this.

Just for your information. In PostgreSQL databases the second variant is called iso.

In psql client you can do:

set datestyle to 'iso' ;
show datestyle;

If you want to get the first variant outputted, you have to write your own function.

Sadly to see the answer, but it is reasonable. @maroony you'd do a convert before calling parse()
