Update: I was wrong, the sound output doesn't stop working. What happens is that their music player loses track of whatever point it's using to read the music and that usually leads it to memory where there's nothing. But in some cases (depending on the loaded segment address) you can hear it jump into some sparse data and random instruments will go off every so often.

It's almost as funny as letting the music play past the end during the "The End" screen where it then turns into some random instrument loop.

Also worth noting that one place the music cuts out most often is when the screen begins panning down to show the circular "VH" logo with palette animation.

Hm, and if you loadfix enough times other things happen, like the opening logo starts up with the half of the screen it pans from containing garbage data.

And, if the starting segment is beyond about 0x5000, other glitches happen, starting with music, and leading up to 0x7000 where severe memory corruption happens.

Hm, looking at the demo now, I'm noticing that perhaps the demo isn't getting very much stack? (E)SP is on average between 0x110-0x140. Could it be simple stack overflow?

I forgot to mention this but the audible errors can happen on real hardware (a Pentium laptop even).
