Update: I am able to get this to work if I specify the absolute path of the kernel file to the --existing flag.

minrk avatar minrk commented on May 23, 2024

Can you run it with --debug and provide the output? It's possible that it's not looking in the CWD.

Hm, I can't seem to get command to run with the --debug flag. Using this command:

jupyter qtconsole --existing kernel-8103.json --ssh user@host --debug

Results in:

[JupyterQtConsoleApp] CRITICAL | Bad config encountered during initialization:
[JupyterQtConsoleApp] CRITICAL | Unrecognized flag: '--debug'

Thoughts?

I got the exact same problem and specifying the absolute path also solved this problem, thanks @shaunpatel!

Can we close this issue since it is documented that you need the full path, or should we keep it open to search the local path?

Migelo avatar Migelo commented on May 23, 2024

IMO it'd be cool if it worked just with the local path, more convenient.

Hi,

Trying to do something similar, can't get it to work. My steps:

  1. running "%connect_info" on the notebook in a remote machine (the remote machine is notebook server).
  2. copying the json connection file into my local machine
  3. Run jupyter qtconsole --existing kernel.json --ssh user@host

The qtconsole comes up, but shows "kernal died, restarting" repeatedly.

Hi,

I had the issue as shaunpatel until added the absolute path. Now, I'm in the same boat as edoson:

@Migelo and @shaunpatel , how did you guys make it work ? I'm getting the same error "kernel died"

jupyter qtconsole --existing C://Users//username//kernel-32488.json user@host

@Migelo Thanks for replying. ( I was giving that command with the forward slash '/' because i was trying something in git bash installed on the windows machine)

When I give this command ( which is more windows like)
jupyter qtconsole --existing c:\Users\username\kernel-32488.json --ssh user@hostname , it gives me this weird error.

[JupyterQtConsoleApp] Forwarding connections to 127.0.0.1 via user@hostname
