I googled the "xterm 256 color extension", and find that the escape sequences 
used 
by xterm to change to 256 colors also exit in linux kernel console sequences, 
but 
they have different meanings. 

FbTerm is compatible with linux kernel console sequences, it seems like 
supporting 
256 colors in FbTerm is impossible.

Yeah, 256 colors would be really nice as there is no such terminal emulator for 
frame
buffer available yet, and would be really useful for those trying to avoid X11.
