It's good to learn both however most people do not proxy nginx to Apache and instead proxy nginx to php-fpm which can be done via a port or socket, FPM tends to be quicker than the Apache module and in newer versions of Apache the suggested action is also to proxy to fpm

It would be very strange if you find the source again afaik its never been the case unless there was a bug with FastCGI in the environment they were testing in

Sorry, it was a while ago and I tried to find it. From the reading I've done now, it still seems that Apache is faster at executing PHP, hence why people use Nginx and then proxy the PHP off to Apache.

For this reason, surely it'd be prudent to learn Nginx and Apache rather than just one or the other?
