Hi. You're right, I don't think this would currently be possibly, but the functionality seems reasonable. And the props-solution you referenced a good way to go about it. Unfortunately I don't have time for the next month or so to do anything myself, but please feel free to open a PR.

I came up with a way to construct the file object from the image for upload.

      var vm = this
      vm.saving = true
      fetch(vm.image.dataUrl)
        .then((res) => { return res.arrayBuffer() })
        .then((buf) => { return new File([ buf ], vm.image.info.name, { type: vm.image.type }) })
        .then((file) => {
          return this.$store.dispatch('profileImage/upload', file)
            .then(() => {
              vm.showModal = false
              vm.image = null
              vm.hasImage = false
            })
        })
        .catch((e) => {
          console.log(e)
        })
        .finally(() => {
          vm.saving = false
        })
    }
