It was completely intentional.

When I originally wrote this a couple years ago, I was using Gson a lot and really liked it and decided to model it after their fromJson methods that only throw exceptions that extend from RuntimeException. Since I was always using this library with Gson in the Android apps I was writing I thought it make sense to have them consistent with each other.

It was an experimentation in not using any checked exceptions to have the simplest API possible, and I agree it is at the cost of compile-time checks.

Thanks for your reply.
As an experiment, I tried to see if I could modify the code to use IOExceptions instead, and it was not too difficult, so I have put the results here: https://github.com/BoD/http-request/blob/IOException/lib/src/main/java/com/github/kevinsawicki/http/HttpRequest.java...

I will try to use it a bit and see if I like it better this way :)

Of course this is not really practical in the 'long term' since I would have to maintain / merge the new changes if I want to benefit from them...
