Good plan. I am on board with this. I'm working on a script to rename footprint files using regex:
- Change filename
- Change internal name
- Change 3D model reference
(without touching any other parts of file or reordering file data)

Is it better to follow Molex's weird non-standard naming scheme, or enforce a simpler CamelCase scheme here? e.g.
- MicroFit
- PicoLock
- NanoFit
- PanelMate

Edit i would like to start with this lib within the next few weeks. (I will again update the generator scripts such that they generate correct footprints.)

As i got no further input i decided to go with the molex naming. (One PR with this naming scheme is already merged in the kicad-footprint repo)
