I was able to fix this on MacOS 10.15.4, but I'm not sure what did it:
- Reinstall MacOS Developer Tools
- Re-install Jemalloc and Ruby (using homebrew and ruby-install)
- Gem bundled correctly after that

If you come here in 2023, like me, DON'T UNINSTALL anything related to XCode. No need.
There are great chance it is because your system Ruby, which is old, is loaded before your Homebrew Ruby.
Just follow this guide to have a ruby
command using your latest Ruby installation.

Seeing the same issue. No clue what this is about.

If anyone should have a similar problem:
I still got the same error despite these steps. It just didn't work when the Command Tools were installed - the following steps, one after the other, were a workaround for me:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
gem install unf_ext -v 0.0.7.7
sudo xcode-select --install

Is there a solution for Linux? I installed all development tools and c++ devel libs, build is failing with 2.7
Centos 7
from ruby-unf_ext.
It seems this combination worked in 2.7
- gem: erubis
version: "2.7.0"- gem: unf_ext
version: "0.0.7.5"
- gem: unf_ext
