The problem appears to stem from the exception handling in the new version of swigibpy, which didn't crop up when I tested before release but appears to happen all the time now.
I should have a fix soon and will push a new version to PyPi once tested.

Should now be fixed in latest master code. Please test and let me know if there are any further issues.
