The reason started and running are separate states is while a thread reports that it is running and not just started, you can synchronize with it, we unset running after zend is done executing ( and handle any hangers on at the next available opportunity ). Don't forget that the object in-front of you isn't all that is executing, we first have to initialize zend, then your code is run ( synchronization possible ), then we have to deactivate zend ( synchronization pointless, thread members persistent ), so started and running are two very different states, and intentionally so ...

Restarting threads is not possible ... at some time in the future I do hope to be able to re-use contexts, but it's not even in progress, on the php level, stacking (workers) do just that ...
