What does it mean to "develop a wayland protocol that can be used now"? Does it mean a forked wlroots or it can be part of labwc somehow until it is upstreamed?

I think we should technically be able implement a wayland protocol without forking wlroots.

To sum it up: I don't think this is a technical issue but more of a political one. We have a stance on not doing any of this as it further fragments the wayland ecosystem. However, on the other side some protocols just don't go *anywhere* (e.g. ext-workspaces).
