Workaround: Monkey-patch superagent.
superagent = require('supertest/node_modules/superagent')
superagent.serialize['application/json-patch'] = JSON.stringify

I actually pushed the fix as I described above quite a while ago, not sure why this is still open.
Does that monkey patch actually work? I didn't think you could modify submodules at runtime.

I am pretty sure it works - required modules are cached and I'm just modifying the serialize property on the agent. I'm no longer using a custom serializer so I could be wrong.
