Should now be able to do this:

  var change = {
    operation: 'replace',
    modification: {
      data: "data2",
      medium: "sms2"
    }
  };
  var dn = "amoncontactname="+name+", uuid=7b23ae63-37c9-420e-bb88-8d4bf5e30455, ou=customers, o=smartdc"
  client.modify(dn, change, function(err) {
    if (err) console.warn("client.modify err: %s", err)
    client.unbind(function(err) {});
  });

To be released in 0.2.7.

Also client.modify doesn't error out at all of the given Change doesn't have an "operation" field set. Perhaps it should? I was trying for a while the the "type" field name, as in the docs (separate pull request coming to fix that in client.md).
