Nice one! And you're not happy with implementing this as a snippet with any of the available snippet solutions rather than a function of vim-latex itself?

Actually, this can not be implemented as a snippet, because a snippet needs a well defined "keyword" for expanding the snippet. Thus this seems like a feature that should be implemented in vim-latex. I have a lot on my hands right now, so I don't know when I'll be able to do the implementation. Hopefully not in too long.

Ah I see, I was just seeing the ref example and not thinking of a general algorithm that would be able to do this with any word left of the cursor. That would indeed be quite nice!

First attempt at solving this. Seems to work OK. Suggestions for improvements or modifications are of course very nice!

Hah, I implemented everything inside autoload/latex.vim and moved it to change.vim at the last minute. Thanks for the catch!
