netscape-communicator-3-0-2-source's Introduction

This started out as the 3.02 + S/MIME branch.

Everything I've changed since then is wrapped in #ifdef DEBUG_jwz.
Make sure to define that even in non-debug builds.

Summary of changes to XFE:

  * The FACE attribute to the FONT tag is ignored.

  * There is an option menu item that toggles whether the SIZE attribute
    to the FONT tag is ignored.

  * Foreground and background colors of form elements are made sane:
    you won't see black-on-black options menus any more.

  * Certain Windows characters will be mapped to close Latin1 analogs
    (quotes, bullets, etc.) Other unknown characters will show up as "?".

  * Added "JavaScript Enabled" to the options menu, instead of it being
    buried in preferences

  * Added "GIF Animations Enabled" and "GIF Animation Loops Enabled" to
    the options menu

  * Added "Open Link in Other Browser" command (set the `other browser'
    command by hand-editing ~/.netscape/preferences)

  * Later, got more hardcore about it, and made middle-clicks and clicks
    on URLs in mail messages also go through "Other Browser".

  * Added "New Browser Window" to the "Windows" menu, where it should have
    been all along...

  * Put back the "Compress All Folders" and "Mark Thread Read" mail menu items

  * Added "Autoload Images" menu item to mail and news windows too

  * Don't insert high-bit characters into text fields, since on my Linux
    box, Motif freaks out

  * the string that "Find" uses is global rather than per-window

  * "Find Again" always works

  * Entries in the Windows menu have the strings "(iconic)" or "(busy)"
    appended to them, as appropriate.

  * Made "netscape -remote openURL(..., new-window)" not create a superfluous
    intermediate new window when the selected window was the mail window.

  * "Save Link As" in a mail/news window will pop up the dialog over that
    window instead of over some random browser window.

  * Added more options to the Print dialog: font size, header and footer
    strings, and horizontal and vertical margin sizes.

  * Save As Postscript uses prevailing Print settings

  * "Get Mail" consults both the POP3 server and runs movemail.

  * The "Sender" header follows the "From" header, instead of trying to
    second-guess the user in the name of security.

  * Splash screen is disabled.

  * Added a pulldown menu for the From field on composition windows, so that
    I can have multiple identities. The various addresses are stored in
    .netscape/preferences under the new multi-line EMAIL_ADDRESSES field:
    each line in that field is "name-and-addr \t fcc-file \t organization-str".

  * "#define _XmConst const" in dialogs.c

  * Don't ever ask the question about "another copy of Mozilla is running,
    are you sure?" Just silently run this copy and disable access to the
    various database files, as we would have done if the user said yes.
    (Since I only use this program for reading mail, and since security
    doesn't work anyway, that's fine.)

  * Made mouse-wheel-scrolling work.

Summary of changes to lib/libparse:

  * Close dangling table tags when laying out documents (pa_parse.c)

  * Ignore body of <STYLE> tag (by kludgily aliasing it to <TITLE>
    in pa_hash.h -- since all but the first TITLE are ignored.)

Summary of changes to lib/layout:

  * Never ever do a re-layout as a result of a META CHARSET attribute.

Summary of changes to lib/libimg:

  * Backend of "GIF Animations Enabled" and "GIF Animation Loops Enabled".

Summary of changes to lib/libjava:

  * I have no idea why I made changes there.

Summary of changes to lib/libmime:

  * Always display X-Mailer header.

  * Ignore "Content-Disposition: inline"

Summary of changes to lib/libmisc:

  * Never display the "Bookmarks have changed on disk" dialog.

Summary of changes to lib/libmsg:

  * Set the default FCC location to be the selected folder.
    Defined MSG_SelectedFolderName().

  * defined MSG_CompositionWindowNewsgroups() for some reason I can't recall.

  * When forwarding a message, display the BCC field by default.

  * Backend of multi-account kludge.

  * Folders whose names end in "Inbox" are not "sentmail" folders even if
    they are FCC targets.

  * message.c has some "multiple identities" stuff in it (don't reply to
    myself.)

  * Change "offer to compress folders" threshold from 50K to 10M.

  * Deleting unread messages marks them as read.

Summary of changes to lib/libnet:

  * Display directory listings in a table instead of in a PRE.

  * Never print "Ignoring unsupported format code in mailcap file".

  * Never pop up "no messages on POP server" dialog.

  * Disable res_init() crap in mkconect.c and unix-dns.c

  * Use mkstemp() instead of tmpnam() in mkinit.c

Summary of changes to lib/xlate:

  * Printing of headers and footers was broken. Fixed it.

  * When printing URLs, suppress mailbox: URLs, and directories in file: URLs.

  * When printing date, print it my way.

  * When printing headers/footers, generate %%BoundingBox properly.
