The following fix works, but requires oc cluster up, down, up.
Modify file ./openshift.local.clusterup/node/node-config.yaml
to set entry in dnsIP
field to external DNS server (e.g. 8.8.8.8
)
Once cluster is restarted, Pods will have the new entry in the propagated /etc/resolv.conf
file:
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 172.30.0.2
search myproject.svc.cluster.local svc.cluster.local cluster.local
options ndots:5
The oc cluster down/up
is required mainly due to the way the openshift origin container is started:

The --dns
configuration option is passed as a command line argument instead of being retrieved from the node-config.yaml
everytime.

The previous fix doesn't work in GH but does in local.
In the end added this workaround too.
