@mivok I'm not so sure about including the question mark in the list of unallowed symbols. This is often used for FAQ-style entries (e.g. https://octodex.github.com/faq.html) and I do find it appropriate there.
The style guide only mentions : and ., but I agree with the other currently included punctiation symbols, except ?. What's your opinion on that?

Originally I picked ? because it ended a sentence, and the rationale behind disallowing '.' was that all headers are full sentences and so don't need a sentence separator. However, I see the value in being able to allow '?' and have opened up #54 to allow it to be customized for given styles.
